Water theme is very delicate for Emirates. Dryness and lack of water are causes of many issues for the country. Agricultural areas are almost non existent, and there is a scarsity of technologies able to exploit the few aquifers located in desert zones. Water theme is delicate for Netherlands also. Dealing with overflows and floods has always been a problematic issue. An impressive development in technologies able to overcome these situations has been accarried out through the years. Floating technologies, even applied to buildings, are an integral part of this development process.
Hydroponic technologies are used as an active and constant interaction between different environments. Netherlands pavilion is designed following these principles. Fishfarming chemicals and solar energy provides power for artificial agricultural fields. The visitor can experience the undewater world and the desert environment in the same archtiectural ambient, whose core is hydroponic system able to prodce food even after the EXPO period.
Thanks to Netherlands’ advanced floating technology, these kind of systems will have the possibility to be installed in the specific environment, and Emirates will be able to actually build agriculture in the desert.
